Morukuru Family Madikwe is just 110 km from Sun City, and a mere 4 hours drive from Johannesburg/Pretoria, making this location one of the most accessible reserves in Africa. We can arrange private transfers by road but for the most convenient and trouble-free way to get to there we recommend you book a scheduled flight or private charter, only 45 minutes, from O.R. Tambo International Airport to Madikwe Game Reserve.
A Morukuru Family representative will greet you on disembarking from your international flight, assist a smooth and quick passage through immigration and luggage collection and deliver you to your Morukuru Aircraft, prepped and ready for take off.

Directions to Morukuru Family Madikwe:
Via the MADIKWE CONSERVANCY PRIVATE GAME RESERVE GATE, from Johannesburg O.R. Tambo International Airport.
- We strongly advise that you hire a vehicle with a high ground clearance (example: 4×4, 2×4) due to the conditions of some of the dirt roads leading up to the Madikwe Game Reserve and in the reserve itself.
- We advise that you fill up with fuel at Sun City Village which is shortly after the Sun City Entrance gates on your right.
- There is no fuel available once in Madikwe Game Reserve.
- Please call the the house once you have reached Sun City so that we can ensure someone is at the gate to meet you

Important Madikwe Conservancy Private Game Reserve Gate times:
Please note that the operating hours for the gates are as follows:
Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sun: 07:30 – 13:00 and 14:00 – 16:30
Wed: 07:30 – 13:00 14:00 – 15:00
We suggest arriving at the gate just before 12:30 or just after 14:00. We cannot accept early check in arrivals without prior arrangement
Take R21 to Pretoria.
Then take the N1 North to Pietersberg (Polokwane).
After the Zambezi Road turnoff, you take the N4 toward Rustenburg.
After Brits look for the R556 Sun City/Pilanesberg turn off. Follow the Signs to Sun City/Pilanesberg approx. 76km.
After passing the Sun City entrance on your right you will see the Sun City Village also on your right. Please stop here for fuel if necessary and phone the house to advise that you have reached Sun City.
Join the Sun City road again and continue straight on the R556 for approximately 5 Km’s. You will come to a 4-way stop. Turn right onto the R565 towards Derdepoort.
Follow the road for 8 km’s and turn left to Bapong.
Continue straight for approx. 35km (IGNORE ALL SIGNS TO MADIKWE) and at the 4-way stop turn right towards Derdepoort.
After 25km the tar road ends. Continue on the dirt road for another 13.3km, and turn right towards Derdepoort.
After approx. 22km turn left into the gate sign posted MADIKWE CONSERVANCY PRIVATE GAME RESERVE. Please wait here to be met by a Morukuru Family Staff member – they will escort you through to the lodge.

Direction to Morukuru Ocean House in De Hoop Nature Reserve
• The reserve gate closes at 18h00 (19h00 on Fridays).
• When you get to Bredasdorp or Swellendam, please contact Ocean House at +27-82 651 2114 or +27-76 504 2520 to advise estimated arrival time at the main gate of De Hoop Nature Reserve.
• We strongly recommend a vehicle with high ground clearance (2WD or 4WD) for the gravel roads leading to and inside De Hoop Nature Reserve.
• We advise that you fill up with fuel in Bredasdorp, Riviersonderend or Swellendam, before arriving at De Hoop Nature Reserve, there is no fuel available inside De Hoop Nature Reserve.

Self-drive from Cape Town (scenic route approx 3.5 – 4 hours):
Take the N2 to Caledon. From Caledon drive on the R316 through Napier to Bredasdorp. From Bredasdorp take the R319 to Swellendam out of town for about 6kms and then turn right – sign posted De Hoop / Malgas / Infanta. Travel on the gravel road for 33kms until you see a sign to the right – BUCHU BUSHCAMP / DE HOOP. It is 7km from this turn off to the Main Gate of the Park. You will be met at the Main Gate and escorted to Morukuru Ocean House.
Self-drive from Cape Town (fastest and easiest route approx 3.5 hours):
Travel on the N2 from Cape Town to Swellendam, past Caledon and Riviersonderend. Pass the Bredasdorp turn off and look out for Spitskop turnoff on your right (it is 13km before Swellendam). Turn right onto the Spitskop road and travel for approx 45km until you get to a T-junction. Turn left at the T-junction signed Malgas / Infanta and travel approx 2km before you turn right onto the De Hoop Pad signed BUCHU BUSHCAMP / DE HOOP. It is 7km from this turn off to the Main Gate of the Park. You will be met at the Main Gate and escorted to Morukuru Ocean House.
From George / Swellendam (approx 4 hours from George):
Travel on the N2 from George in the direction of CapeTown. 13km past Swellendam turn left onto gravel road, signed Spitskop. Continue on this road for about 45km until you reach a T-junction. Turn left at the T-junction signed Malgas / Infanta and travel approx 2km before you turn right onto the De Hoop Pad signed BUCHU BUSHCAMP / DE HOOP. It is 7km from this turn off to the Main Gate of the Park. You will be met at the Main Gate and escorted to Morukuru Ocean House.

Closest airport is O.R. Tambo International Airport (20km). Easy freeway access allows guests to travel to O.R. Tambo International, Johannesburg or Pretoria city centers within 40 minutes. The nearest Gautrain station, South Africa’s first rail subway servicing the Johannesburg and Pretoria areas, is only minutes away from the hotel.
From O.R. Tambo enter R24 then continue onto N12 (signs for N12/Johannesburg). At the interchange, bear left into N3. Take the exit toward Eastern Bypass (M1). Take the ramp onto De Villiers Graaff Motorway. Turn right at Grayston Dr/M40 then bear left into Katherine Road. After 1 km, turn left at Pretoria Avenue. AtholPlace Hotel & Villa will be on the left.
